Infertility reflects the interaction between biology, lifestyle, and time—and it affects women and men equally. **Content:** Infertility affects approximately **one in six people globally**, making it a major public health issue rather than a niche medical concern. In 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) published its **[first comprehensive guideline](https://www.fertstert.org/article/S0015-0282(25)02246-0/fulltext#fig1)** on the *prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infertility*, marking a pivotal moment in reproductive medicine. This guideline consolidates global evidence, clinical expertise, and patient-centred values into a single framework intended to guide clinicians, health systems, and policymakers worldwide. Below, we translate the scientific core of this guideline into clear, clinically relevant insights. ## Infertility as a Global Health Priority The WHO formally recognizes infertility as a **disease of the reproductive system**, defined as the failure to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse. Importantly, prevalence rates are **similar across high-, middle-, and low-income countries**, highlighting infertility as a universal challenge rather than a condition limited to specific regions or lifestyles. The guideline reinforces reproductive autonomy as a fundamental right: individuals and couples should be supported in deciding *if, when, and how* they wish to have children. ## A Shift Toward Prevention: The Role of Information and Lifestyle For the first time, WHO places **prevention** alongside diagnosis and treatment as a formal pillar of infertility care. ### Information as Prevention WHO recommends that people of reproductive age receive **timely, accessible information** about: - Fertility and age-related fertility decline - Risk factors for infertility - When to seek medical advice > Low-cost strategies—such as digital resources, primary care encounters, or reproductive health visits—are emphasized to ensure equity and broad access. ### Lifestyle Modifications The guideline explicitly acknowledges lifestyle as a **modifiable risk factor** for infertility. For individuals and couples with infertility, WHO suggests providing **lifestyle advice before and during treatment**, including: - Nutritional quality of diet - Physical activity - Weight management - Alcohol consumption - Smoking cessation Although the certainty of evidence is rated as low, lifestyle guidance is positioned as **foundational care**, not optional advice. In clinical practice, lifestyle assessment is considered part of standard infertility evaluation. ## Diagnosis: A Rational, Evidence-Based Approach The guideline promotes a **systematic, cost-effective diagnostic pathway**, avoiding unnecessary testing while ensuring clinically meaningful evaluation. ### Female-Factor Infertility Key diagnostic principles include: - Presumptive confirmation of ovulation using mid-luteal progesterone rather than routine ultrasound - Tubal patency assessment with HSG or HyCoSy - Structured evaluation of uterine cavity abnormalities using ultrasound-based methods > Importantly, **age** is emphasized as the most powerful predictor of ovarian reserve. Ovarian reserve testing should support—rather than replace—age-based clinical judgment. ### Male-Factor Infertility WHO reinforces: - Standardized semen analysis following WHO laboratory criteria - Repeat semen testing only when parameters are abnormal This approach avoids over-testing while maintaining diagnostic accuracy. ### Unexplained Infertility Unexplained infertility is defined only after **thorough evaluation of both partners**, including confirmed ovulation, patent tubes, and normal semen parameters. ## Treatment: Stepwise, Proportionate, Patient-Centered Treatment recommendations are largely **conditional**, reflecting the reality that evidence quality varies and that patient values must guide decision-making. ### PCOS and Ovulatory Dysfunction For infertility related to PCOS: - **Letrozole** is recommended as first-line ovulation induction - Lifestyle interventions (diet, physical activity, weight management) are considered **good clinical practice** - IVF is reserved for cases where less invasive treatments fail > Lifestyle modification is embedded as the **starting point**, not an adjunct. ### Tubal and Uterine Factors - Surgery may be considered in younger women with mild tubal disease - IVF is preferred for severe tubal disease or advanced maternal age - Routine septum resection is not recommended in the absence of recurrent pregnancy loss ### Male-Factor Infertility - Varicocele repair may be beneficial in selected cases - Notably, WHO **does not recommend for or against antioxidant supplementation** in men, citing insufficient evidence ### Unexplained Infertility Management follows a graduated model: 1. Expectant management (including lifestyle advice and cycle awareness) 2. Stimulated intrauterine insemination (IUI) 3. IVF, without routine use of ICSI unless indicated ## Why This Guideline Matters This WHO guideline is not designed to replace national or specialty-specific recommendations. Instead, it provides a **global, equity-oriented framework** that: - Normalizes infertility as part of universal health care - Emphasizes proportional, evidence-based interventions - Integrates prevention, lifestyle, and clinical treatment into a single continuum Perhaps most importantly, it reframes infertility care as **both biological and contextual**, shaped by age, health, behavior, access to care, and informed decision-making. ## Expert Perspective: Why Lifestyle Modifications Matter More Than Ever As an IVF specialist actively working at the forefront of reproductive medicine—and as CEO of a company deeply involved in fertility and pregnancy care—I believe the WHO guideline sends a message that is subtle, but profoundly important: **advanced technology does not replace human biology; it must work in harmony with it**. We are entering an era where artificial intelligence, automation, and increasingly sophisticated IVF technologies shape clinical decision-making. These tools are invaluable. They improve embryo selection, optimize laboratory conditions, and refine treatment protocols. > Yet even the most advanced algorithm ultimately depends on the **biological quality of the gametes, the metabolic and inflammatory state of the body, and the endocrine environment in which implantation occurs**. This is where lifestyle modifications become not merely supportive, but *strategic*. ### Lifestyle as a Biological Modulator Lifestyle interventions influence fertility through well-established biological pathways: - Regulation of insulin sensitivity and androgen levels, particularly critical in **PCOS** - Reduction of systemic and reproductive inflammation - Optimization of mitochondrial function and cellular energy metabolism - Improvement of hormonal signaling across the hypothalamic–pituitary–ovarian axis In conditions such as PCOS, lifestyle modification is not an optional add-on. It directly affects ovulatory function, oocyte competence, and treatment responsiveness. This is precisely why the WHO guideline embeds lifestyle interventions as **good clinical practice** in PCOS-related infertility—before escalation to pharmacological or assisted reproductive techniques. ### Technology Works Best on a Prepared Biology In daily clinical practice, we increasingly observe that patients who engage in meaningful lifestyle changes—nutritional quality, metabolic regulation, physical activity, sleep, and reduction of harmful exposures—often demonstrate: - More predictable responses to ovarian stimulation - Improved endocrine balance - Greater resilience during fertility treatment AI-driven IVF tools can optimize decisions, but they cannot compensate for chronic metabolic dysregulation, persistent inflammation, or unmanaged lifestyle-related risk factors. **Technology amplifies biology; it does not override it**. ### A Modern, Integrated View of Fertility Care Encouraging lifestyle modification is not about shifting responsibility onto patients, nor about delaying access to treatment. > It is about **respecting the biology we are working with** and using every evidence-informed lever available to improve outcomes. The WHO guideline does not exaggerate lifestyle. It places it exactly where it belongs: at the foundation of fertility care, alongside accurate diagnosis and proportionate treatment. In a world moving rapidly toward high-tech reproductive medicine, this reminder is not regressive—it is essential. ## A Final Thought The message of the WHO guideline is clear: infertility care should be **scientific, humane, and individualized**. Prevention and lifestyle are not oversold—but they are no longer ignored. Diagnosis should be precise, not excessive. Treatment should escalate thoughtfully, respecting both evidence and the lived experience of patients. ### This marks a new era in reproductive medicine—one where fertility care is recognized not as a luxury, but as an essential component of health across the life course. > *“This article discusses and interprets key concepts from the 2025 World Health Organization (WHO) guideline on infertility, combined with expert clinical perspective.”* ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. It is about the severe consequences that ripple through every system of the body. **Content:** ### Sorry to disturb you or make you uncomfortable with this AI-generated image for PCOS awareness. But please, keep on reading… ### PCOS is not about pimples, hair growth, or irregular periods. > It is about living every single day under the shadow of a syndrome that derails health, performance, and future life expectancy. And that is why September is PCOS awareness month. ## 1 in 10 women. Think about your office, your classroom, your family. Out of every ten women, at least one is carrying the invisible burden of PCOS. Some don’t even know it yet. Many are told to “just lose weight” or “don’t stress, it will settle down.” Too many remain undiagnosed until they try for pregnancy and discover their body isn’t cooperating. > But the real story of PCOS is not about fertility alone. It is about the **severe consequences that ripple through every system of the body.** ## Mental health: the first fracture Depression, anxiety, even bipolar-spectrum disorders appear **at double the rate** in women with PCOS compared to those without it. These aren’t temporary “bad days” but long-term conditions that eat away at motivation, concentration, and self-worth. Why? Hormonal imbalances that disrupt neurotransmitters. The stigma of acne or facial hair in cultures obsessed with beauty. The despair of a body that refuses to ovulate or menstruate regularly. > The result? **Higher rates of antidepressant use, more frequent therapy needs, and a persistent vulnerability to burnout.** ## Brain fog, learning, and academic performance PCOS doesn’t stop at mood. Studies now show that women with PCOS have measurable differences in **attention, executive function, and memory.** That means: - More struggle to sit through exams and retain complex information. - Slower recovery from stress, leading to poorer performance in high-pressure settings. - An invisible but very real disadvantage in the classroom and lecture hall. For young women in high school or university, this translates to **lower participation, more missed classes, and reduced performance.** It’s not laziness—it’s biology. ## Work performance: the hidden tax Fast forward to the workplace. Women with PCOS report significantly higher levels of **absenteeism** (sick days) and **presenteeism** (showing up but underperforming). - Painful cycles, heavy bleeding, and fatigue push them to call in sick more often. - Anxiety, poor sleep, and brain fog reduce productivity even when they force themselves to show up. - Managers and colleagues rarely understand, leading to stereotypes of being “unreliable” or “not tough enough.” > This is not just a personal health issue. It is a **workplace equity issue.** Women with PCOS are silently penalized in their careers for something they cannot control. ## Infertility: the heartbreak of PCOS For many, the first time PCOS becomes visible is when they try to conceive. PCOS is the **leading cause of anovulatory infertility worldwide**. - Women with PCOS often have irregular or absent ovulation, meaning fewer chances to conceive naturally. - Even when ovulation occurs, **egg quality may be compromised** due to chronic hormonal and metabolic imbalances. - Insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism disrupt follicle development, leading to immature eggs that fail to fertilize or implant successfully. - PCOS is also linked to **higher miscarriage rates**, creating a cycle of hope and despair that can stretch across years. The emotional burden is crushing. Month after month of irregular cycles, failed attempts, or miscarriages erode confidence and self-worth. Couples often enter IVF earlier, facing financial strain, physical exhaustion, and the social stigma of “delayed” motherhood. > This is why PCOS is more than a private struggle. It is a public health concern that affects not just the woman but her partner, her family, and the next generation. ## The metabolic time bomb Behind the immediate struggles lurks an even greater threat: **insulin resistance**. - Women with PCOS have a **markedly higher risk of type 2 diabetes.** - This risk is present **even in lean women** with PCOS—meaning body weight alone does not predict who is safe. - Insulin resistance accelerates weight gain, increases fatigue, and feeds into a vicious cycle of poor health. This is why PCOS is called a **metabolic disorder, not just a reproductive one.** ## The cardiovascular future The heart is not spared. PCOS accelerates cardiovascular risk by decades: - Higher rates of **hypertension and dyslipidemia.** - Early onset of **atherosclerosis.** - A **higher lifetime risk of heart attack and stroke.** > A woman with PCOS in her 20s may look healthy, but her vascular system could already be aging faster than her peers’. ## Endometrium and cancer risk One of the more frightening aspects of PCOS is its link to **endometrial cancer.** Because of chronic anovulation, estrogen remains unopposed in the uterus, thickening the endometrial lining and increasing the risk of malignant transformation. Meta-analyses suggest women with PCOS face a **four- to five-fold increased risk** of endometrial cancer. This isn’t a hypothetical risk. It is a call for vigilance, awareness, and proactive care. ## The liver and sleep: overlooked but dangerous ### The liver Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or, as it is increasingly called, metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), is alarmingly common in women with PCOS. Even young, lean women can develop it. Left unchecked, it can progress to **fibrosis and cirrhosis.** ### Sleep Sleep apnea—commonly associated with overweight men—turns out to be **up to three times more common** in women with PCOS. This isn’t just about snoring. Sleep apnea robs the brain of oxygen, worsens insulin resistance, fuels hypertension, and shortens lifespan. ## Pregnancy and the next generation Even when conception is achieved, PCOS brings risks into pregnancy: - **Gestational diabetes.** - **Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.** - Higher rates of miscarriage. And beyond pregnancy, research shows maternal PCOS is associated with a higher risk of **ADHD and autism spectrum disorders in offspring.** The mechanisms are still being studied, but the signal is strong. > This means PCOS isn’t just a woman’s issue—it reverberates into the health of the next generation. ## Why addressing PCOS is so f\*\*\*ing important Because it is not a cosmetic nuisance. Because it is not a passing adolescent phase. Because it is not “just about fertility.” It is about: - **Mental health** that determines resilience. - **Cognitive performance** that determines academic and career potential. - **Workplace participation** that determines equality. - **Fertility and reproductive health** that determine whether dreams of motherhood can be realized. - **Metabolic and cardiovascular health** that determine how long and how well we live. - **Generational health** that determines the future of our children. ### The takeaway If this image made you uncomfortable, good. It should. PCOS is uncomfortable. It’s invisible suffering in boardrooms, lecture halls, and bedrooms around the world. **1 in 10 women are affected.** One in ten is masking pain, fighting fatigue, or hiding disappointment behind a smile. > And unless we change how society sees it—unless we push PCOS out of the shadows and into mainstream health discussions—millions of women will keep paying the price. *Women’s Evolution Decoded* exists to say it loudly: **PCOS is a public health priority.** Not tomorrow, not when she wants a baby, not when she has a heart attack at 50. But **now.** Thank you for reading and being part of women’s health evolution. Whether partnered or single, women deserve the opportunity to pursue both their professional ambitions and their journey toward motherhood, supported by workplaces and communities that recognize their unique paths. **Content:** ### Mature Motherhood, Fertility Challenges, and the Workplace: Navigating Perimenopause, Single Motherhood, and Modern Paths to Parenthood In today’s world, many women choose to pursue motherhood later in life, often balancing their careers and personal dreams simultaneously. However, as more women attempt to conceive during their late 30s, 40s, and even 50s, they often find themselves facing a silent but formidable challenge: **perimenopause**. > In the context of a demanding workplace, the journey to mature motherhood can become even more complex. #### The Overlapping Timelines: Career Growth, Fertility Decline, and Hormonal Shifts For many professional women, the late 30s and early 40s are peak years for career development. At the same time, biological fertility naturally declines. Overlay this with the beginning of **perimenopause**—the transitional period leading up to menopause—and the reality becomes more complicated. Symptoms such as irregular cycles, hormonal imbalances, mood swings, and sleep disturbances can subtly or severely affect both work performance and fertility efforts. Adding another hidden layer, emerging research highlights the role of the **gut and reproductive microbiome**—the communities of microorganisms in the gut, vagina, and uterus—in regulating hormonal balance, fertility potential, immune response, and even mental health. > Disruptions to the microbiome, common during perimenopause, can further compromise fertility and exacerbate emotional symptoms. #### Motherhood Beyond Perimenopause: Expanding Possibilities It’s important to highlight that **motherhood is still possible even after menopause**. Thanks to advances in reproductive medicine, women who have transitioned into menopause can achieve pregnancy through **egg donation**. With proper hormonal preparation and careful medical supervision, many women conceive and carry pregnancies safely well into their early-to-mid 50s. This expanded reproductive window provides an empowering option for women whose biological clocks no longer align with personal or career timelines. However, even with egg donation, preparing the **uterine environment** and optimizing the **microbiome** remain critical factors for successful implantation and pregnancy. #### Single Motherhood: A Growing and Courageous Choice **Single motherhood by choice** is another important dimension of modern parenthood. While it can happen at any age, in [our medical practice](http://www.bilalisclinic.gr), we are increasingly seeing mature women—often in their late 30s, 40s, and even early 50s—embrace the decision to become mothers independently. Choosing to pursue motherhood without a partner can be deeply empowering but also brings additional challenges. Single women must navigate fertility treatments, emotional and financial pressures, societal expectations, and often demanding professional lives—all while managing the unique physical and hormonal changes that may come with perimenopause or menopause. > Their courage is reshaping cultural norms around motherhood and inspiring new conversations about what family can look like today. #### Mood Swings, Mental Load, and Career Pressures Hormonal fluctuations during perimenopause are infamous for contributing to **mood swings**, irritability, anxiety, and even depressive symptoms. The gut-brain axis—the communication network between the gut microbiome and the brain—plays a significant role in regulating mood and emotional resilience. Imbalances in the microbiome can worsen mood disturbances, adding an extra emotional burden for women trying to manage demanding jobs, relationships, fertility efforts, and long-term planning for motherhood all at once. In professional settings, these internal struggles can be deeply isolating. Many women report feeling less confident, more anxious, or emotionally overwhelmed during this dual journey of career progression and conception efforts, compounded by perimenopausal changes. #### The Workplace Challenge: Invisible Struggles Unlike maternity, fertility struggles, microbiome care protocols, and perimenopausal symptoms are often invisible to colleagues and managers. Women might find themselves: - Attending important meetings after early-morning fertility treatments - Coping with hot flashes, fatigue, or brain fog during presentations - Managing emotional outbursts or heightened anxiety internally - Needing time off for medical appointments, often without wanting to disclose the real reasons **Many workplaces still lack policies that support fertility journeys, acknowledge hormonal transitions, or recognize the unique pressures faced by women pursuing motherhood later—or alone.** > Without open conversation and appropriate accommodations, women may suffer in silence, impacting their mental health, productivity, and career trajectories. #### What Needs to Change: Towards a More Inclusive Workplace To truly support women aiming for motherhood later in life, organizations should consider: - **Normalizing conversations** around fertility, hormonal health, microbiome care, and mental health. - **Offering flexible scheduling** or remote work options during fertility treatments and hormonal transitions. - **Providing healthcare benefits** that cover fertility services, microbiome consultations, and emotional well-being support. - **Educating managers and HR teams** on the real-world challenges of perimenopause, fertility treatments, single motherhood, and emotional health. - **Creating safe spaces** where women feel comfortable disclosing their needs without fear of stigma or discrimination. > Inclusivity isn’t just about gender—it’s about recognizing and supporting different life stages, paths to motherhood, and health journeys women undertake. #### Empowering Women: Owning Both Dreams Mature motherhood is a powerful, intentional choice that **honors a woman’s journey**, her priorities, and her dreams for both her personal and professional life. Whether partnered or single, women deserve the opportunity to pursue both their professional and family-building dreams, with workplaces that recognize and champion their unique journeys. By bringing the conversation about perimenopause, microbiome health, mood changes, fertility options like egg donation, single motherhood, and emotional well-being into the open, we can create healthier, more compassionate workplaces—where every woman is supported, not sidelined, at every stage of life. #### **A Personal Note:** I will be in London from **May 15th to 19th**, and I am open for **private appointments** with women who would like expert consultancy on their fertility options, whether planning their motherhood journey in the **UK** or abroad. From groundbreaking femtech innovations to personalized and preventative care, this year promises to address longstanding gaps and bring women’s health to the forefront of global healthcare. **Content:** 2025 is already here, and women’s health is poised for transformative advancements that promise to address longstanding disparities and usher in a new era of personalized, inclusive, and technologically driven care. Here are key predictions shaping the landscape this year: ### 1. **Closing the Women’s Health Gap** Historically, women’s health has been underfunded and under-researched, leading to significant health disparities. Conditions such as menopause, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and endometriosis account for 14% of the women’s health burden but have received less than 1% of cumulative research funding between 2019 and 2023. Addressing these gaps could add 2.7 healthy days per year for each woman and yield $1 trillion in annual global GDP by 2040. ### 2. **Rise of Femtech Innovations** The femtech sector is experiencing rapid growth, with innovations targeting various aspects of women’s health, including fertility, menopause, and heart health. Notable developments include smart bras equipped with sensors to monitor heart health and apps providing personalized insights into fertility and menstrual health. By 2025, the femtech industry is projected to be worth $50 billion, reflecting its significant impact on healthcare. ### 3. **Personalized and Preventative Care** There’s a growing emphasis on proactive health management, with women in their 30s and 40s seeking to address health concerns before they manifest. Wearable health-tracking devices are becoming more advanced, monitoring metrics such as ovulation, menstrual cycles, sleep patterns, and stress levels. This personalized approach empowers women to make informed decisions about their health. ### 4. **Integration of Technology in Healthcare** Artificial intelligence (AI) and telehealth are revolutionizing women’s healthcare by enhancing diagnostics, treatment plans, and access to care. AI algorithms are improving the accuracy of breast cancer detection or even [advancing fertility preservation techniques](https://ferticeutics.com/2024/02/22/empowering-women-how-technology-and-ai-make-egg-freezing-a-game-changer-for-dei/), while telehealth services are making healthcare more accessible, especially for women in remote areas. ### 5. **Holistic Approaches to Hormonal Health** There’s an increasing focus on understanding and managing hormonal health through lifestyle interventions, nutrition, and stress management. Brands are introducing products and services aimed at supporting hormonal balance, reflecting a broader trend towards holistic wellness. ### A Personal Perspective While 2025 is undoubtedly shaping up to be a landmark year for women’s health, with advancements in AI, technology, and personalized care, I believe we must always remember the core truth: at the center of all this innovation are women—real, human beings. No matter how sophisticated our tools or how advanced our technology becomes, the heart of healthcare must remain human. Women’s health is not just about solving medical problems; it’s about understanding emotions, fostering trust, and addressing the unique experiences that define a woman’s journey. Technology can provide incredible tools, but it’s empathy, compassion, and a true understanding of what it means to be human that will ultimately make the biggest difference. As we continue to push the boundaries of innovation, we must ensure that every advancement is guided by a deep respect for the women we aim to serve, grounded in human connection and emotion. Because progress without humanity is not progress at all. My hope for the Arab Health Congress is to meet pioneers who share a passion for transforming women’s health through innovation, collaboration, and empathy. These are the individuals who inspire change and challenge the status quo, paving the way for a brighter and healthier future for women everywhere. I look forward to carrying their insights and energy forward, building partnerships that prioritize humanity as much as progress. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. At Fertilovit Greece, part of Ferticeutics Group of companies, we believe in creating a supportive environment where individuals and couples striving to grow their families feel empowered, understood, and equipped to take their next steps. This is the heart of our **“New Year, More Fertility”** campaign. But why do we say *“more fertility”* instead of *“better fertility”*? The answer lies in our holistic approach to reproductive health. Let me explain. --- ### **The Mission: Supporting Every Step of the Fertility Journey** For many, fertility challenges can feel like an isolating experience, filled with uncertainty. Fertilovit exists to change that narrative. Our mission is rooted in the idea that fertility is not just a clinical outcome—it is a state of physical, emotional, and mental readiness that deserves care and attention. With our advanced nutraceuticals, we aim to provide targeted, evidence-based support for: - Women managing PCOS, endometriosis, or thyroid conditions. - Couples preparing for IVF or recovering from failed attempts. - Men facing sperm impairment or wanting to optimize reproductive health. - Pregnant and lactating women who want the best for themselves and their babies. > Our goal is to complement medical treatments, address specific challenges, and optimize the chances of conception while promoting overall well-being. --- ### **The Vision: Why “More” Fertility?** The phrase *“better fertility”* suggests a one-size-fits-all approach or the idea of a single standard of success. Fertility, however, is deeply personal. It’s about: - Having more opportunities to explore pathways to parenthood. - Building more resilience and confidence to pursue dreams, regardless of setbacks. - Experiencing more knowledge, empowerment, and control over reproductive health. By focusing on “more,” we embrace the diversity of fertility journeys and recognize that every small step forward—whether it’s improved egg quality, a healthier lifestyle, or even a mindset shift—is a meaningful win. --- ### **Empowering Doctors, Pharmacies, and Patients** Our “New Year, More Fertility” campaign is about creating impact at every level: - **For healthcare professionals**: We provide scientific insights and cutting-edge products to enhance their ability to support patients with tailored care. - **For pharmacies**: We partner to deliver reliable, accessible solutions that align with the evolving needs of the fertility market. - **For individuals and couples**: We offer educational resources, compassionate guidance, and evidence-based supplements to turn hope into action. --- ### **Join Us in Making 2025 a Year of More** Through this campaign, we invite you—our professional network—to join us in spreading awareness, sharing solutions, and inspiring hope for those navigating fertility challenges. Together, we can make 2024 a year of **more opportunities, more support, and more successes** for individuals and families ready to embrace their fertility journey. At Fertilovit, we believe every new year is a chance to nurture hope. Let’s build this future of **“more fertility”** together. Wishing you all a bright and impactful year ahead! What if you decided to truly understand your OWN health needs and priorities? **Content:** **And the GOAL is….. to (finally) Understand and FOCUS on Your OWN Health Needs and Priorities** As the New Year approaches, many of us set lofty goals: lose weight THIS way, eat healthier THAT way, exercise MUCH HARDER, or finally (!!!) wake up at 5 AM in the morning… These resolutions often come from external influences—what social media promotes, what “experts” say, or what friends and family suggest even if they have never done it themselves. > ****But what if your number one (health) goal this year was not dictated by the outside world? What if you decided to truly understand your OWN health needs and priorities?**** ### Why This Matters More Than Ever In today’s world, we’re bombarded with health trends, advice, and “magic” solutions. One moment, it’s intermittent fasting; the next, it’s an exotic superfood or the latest fitness fad. The result? Overwhelm, confusion, and a disconnect from what our body and mind actually need. > Understanding your unique health priorities is empowering. It allows you to focus on what truly benefits you rather than being distracted by every passing trend. It’s about tuning into your body, trusting your instincts, and aligning your actions with your specific needs—not someone else’s. ### How to Understand Your Own Health Needs Here’s how you can make this goal a reality: #### 1. **Listen to Your Body’s Signals** Your body communicates its needs every day. Are you tired after meals? Do certain foods leave you bloated? Is your energy higher in the morning or evening? - **Action:** Start a health journal to track patterns in your energy, mood, sleep, and digestion. Over time, you’ll notice what works and what doesn’t. #### 2. **Reassess Your Goals Regularly** What mattered last year might not matter now. Life stages, stress levels, and responsibilities evolve, so your health goals should too. - **Action:** Spend time reflecting on what’s truly important to you. Is it better sleep, stress reduction, or perhaps managing a specific health issue? Let your current priorities guide you. #### 3. **Stop Comparing Yourself to Others** Comparison is the thief of joy—and clarity. Just because something works for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for you. - **Action:** Unfollow accounts or influencers that make you feel pressured or inadequate. Replace them with sources that educate and inspire you without overwhelming you. #### 4. **Focus on the Fundamentals** Before diving into the latest health trend, master the basics. Sleep, hydration, movement, and balanced nutrition are timeless pillars of health. - **Action:** Ask yourself: Am I consistently meeting these basic needs? If not, start there. #### 5. **Seek Expert Guidance—Tailored to You** A health professional can help you cut through the noise and understand your unique needs. This could be a doctor, nutritionist, health coach, or therapist. - **Action:** Choose professionals who prioritize evidence-based, personalized approaches. Avoid cookie-cutter advice. #### 6. **Practice Mindful Decision-Making** Before starting a new health regime or buying into a trend, pause. Ask yourself: - Why am I doing this? - Does this align with my priorities? - How does this make me feel? ### The Benefits of Owning Your Health Journey When you take the time to understand your health needs, you’ll experience: - **Less overwhelm** because you’re not chasing every new trend. - **Greater confidence** in your decisions. - **Improved results** as your actions align with your true needs. - **A sense of empowerment** knowing you are in charge of your well-being. ### Make This Year Different This year, let’s move away from the noise and focus on what truly matters—*you*. Your health isn’t a trend, and it doesn’t need to fit anyone else’s mold. It’s personal, dynamic, and worth every bit of care and attention. So take a breath, tune out the distractions, and start paying attention to what your body and mind are really asking for. Some days it might be rest, other days it might be movement, and sometimes it’s as simple as slowing down and savoring a meal. Make 2025 the year you stop chasing and start connecting—with yourself. You’ve got this. > **Here’s to a year of feeling good, inside and out, in a way that’s all your own.** Take good care of yourselves, Harroula ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. But while we focus on work strategies and stress management, there’s one often-overlooked factor that can have a profound impact on our daily performance: the health of our microbiome. The microbiome, the collection of trillions of bacteria in our gut, influences much more than digestion. It’s a dynamic system that impacts cognitive function, mood, energy levels, and overall body function. When the microbiome is in a state of *eubiosis*—a balanced, healthy microbiome—our bodies operate efficiently, supporting clear thinking, better mood regulation, and enhanced resilience to stress. Conversely, *dysbiosis*—an imbalance in gut bacteria—has been linked to brain fog, fatigue, and mood swings. Maintaining a healthy microbiome can be a powerful tool to support focus and productivity at work. Incorporating fiber-rich foods, probiotics, and prebiotics can help foster a thriving microbiome, while minimizing processed foods and high sugar intake can prevent imbalance. > Studies have also shown that a balanced microbiome is associated with better neurotransmitter production, such as serotonin and dopamine, which directly influence our mood and cognitive function. As workplaces increasingly focus on well-being, supporting the microbiome can become part of a holistic approach to maximizing employee performance. By caring for our gut health, we can nurture not only a healthier body but also a sharper, more focused mind. Here are three simple hacks to incorporate microbiome-friendly habits into your workday: 1. **Start Your Day with a Fiber-Packed Breakfast** Foods rich in fiber, like oats, chia seeds, and berries, fuel the good bacteria in your gut. A fiber-packed breakfast can help keep your energy steady and prevent the mid-morning slump. Aim to include diverse sources of fiber in your morning routine to set up your microbiome—and your productivity—for success. 2. **Stay Hydrated with Probiotic-Rich Drinks** Instead of reaching for coffee all day, try including probiotic-rich drinks like kombucha or kefir. These beverages not only hydrate but also provide beneficial bacteria that support gut health. The balanced hydration and probiotic boost can help you feel more alert and focused, avoiding the crash that often comes with caffeine. 3. **Take Regular ‘Movement Breaks’ to Support Digestion** Sitting all day can slow digestion, which impacts gut health and your microbiome. Set a timer to stand, stretch, or take a short walk every hour. These movement breaks stimulate digestion and circulation, helping nutrients reach your body and brain more effectively. Better digestion and nutrient absorption can translate into improved mental clarity and sustained energy throughout the day. Try these hacks, and you might notice the difference not only in your focus but in your overall well-being. Small shifts in daily habits can create a microbiome-friendly environment that supports productivity and cognitive health. **Note:** The tips above are part of our unique [corporate wellness programs ](https://ferticeutics.com/corporate-wellness/)designed to optimize health and performance in the workplace in a totally different, new way. It’s an Evolution.** For generations, menopause has been shrouded in stigma—an unspoken marker of aging, a sign of slowing down. But today, we’re turning that narrative on its head. Menopause isn’t the end; it’s a evolution. It’s a moment of transformation, where women step into their own power, wisdom, and strength. This is not just about surviving menopause—it’s about thriving in a way you never have before. ### **Rewriting the Menopause Story** In the past, society has viewed menopause as something to be “endured.” A phase in life where women are often seen as less vibrant, less capable, less…everything. But here’s the truth: nothing about menopause is less. In fact, it’s more—more wisdom, more resilience, more self-awareness, and yes, even more power. This stage of life brings with it a deeper understanding of who we are. It’s a time when we can let go of the societal pressures we’ve been carrying for so long and focus on *ourselves*. There’s no need to shrink back. This is a time to expand, to redefine what it means to age, and to embrace a new kind of strength. ### **Your Evolution, Your Strength** Every woman’s menopause journey is unique, but one thing is universal: it brings change. The hot flashes, the sleepless nights, the hormonal shifts—these are real challenges. But within these challenges is an opportunity to grow stronger. It’s a chance to take control of your health, your well-being, and your future. This evolution isn’t just physical—it’s mental and emotional. Menopause gives you the space to ask, “What do *I* need? What do *I* want in this next chapter?” It’s a period of reflection and empowerment, where you take ownership of your body and mind in ways that might have felt out of reach in earlier years. ### **Empowering Women Through Menopause** At [Femarelle](http://www.femarelle.gr), we understand that this stage of life is complex. That’s why our mission is to provide support for every step of the journey, from perimenopause to post-menopause. Women are rising up to share their experiences, support one another, and demand that their health and well-being be prioritized. This sense of community is powerful. It’s about evolving in a way that respects our changing bodies and minds. And that’s a challenge worth embracing for everyone. **Content:** Who wants to live more? In today’s world, everyone seems to be on a quest for longevity. And in this pursuit for longevity, everyone eventually faces that pivotal moment—where the focus shifts from living more to living well. Even if, living more is the absolute trend right now. For women, this often coincides with menopause, a biological milestone that dramatically shifts the perception of aging and vitality (unfortunately). But what does menopause have to do with longevity? And, in a similar vein, what compels men to start wanting to also “stop the clock” and take control of their aging process? Menopause and midlife transitions—though physically distinct—are both deeply connected to the human quest for longevity. Menopause is a natural phase of aging that pushes women to confront their body’s changing needs, often leading to a heightened awareness of health, wellness, and the possibility of living a longer, stronger life. Many women find this period to be a catalyst for redefining their priorities, embracing new health practices, and optimizing their well-being in ways they hadn’t before. For men, the desire to maintain youth often takes shape later, in what’s colloquially known as a “midlife crisis.” This phenomenon, while less biologically defined than menopause, triggers similar reflections on time, health, and vitality. When men begin noticing their energy and sexual drive dipping, strength faltering, or stress taking its toll, they too embark on their own mission to hold on to youth. The triggers for this shift? Both men and women experience hormonal changes, a changing body image, and a cultural narrative that tells them aging is something to combat. While menopause is a sudden marker for women, men’s journey to longevity often starts when they begin to feel the creeping signs of aging—whether it’s greying hair, slower recovery times, or that quiet realization that their peak physical years are behind them. But what if, instead of merely seeking to stop the clock, we reframed aging as an opportunity to live better? Menopause, midlife crises, and everything in between could be seen as springboards to achieving a deeper, healthier sense of longevity. The focus shifts from resisting the inevitable to making the most of each phase—empowering women and men alike to live stronger, smarter, and with a sense of purpose. Longevity isn’t about running from ageing. It’s about evolving in a way that respects our changing bodies and minds. And that’s a challenge worth embracing for everyone. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. Unfortunately, we’ve been taught to approach menopause with dread, to see it as a decline, a loss of vitality. > But what if we’ve had it wrong all along? What if, instead of a period of weakness, menopause is the very phase in which you can become **stronger than ever before**? I definately see it that way and I would like you to do the same. Yes, menopause can be hard. But difficulty is where true strength is forged. Instead of hiding from it, let’s ask ourselves: What would happen if we embraced menopause as a time of growth, power, and clarity? **This month, it’s time to rewrite the story.** --- ### **Menopause Can Be Hard, But It Can Also be the Source of Untapped Strength** Let’s not pretend that menopause is easy. For the majority of women, it is not. There are hot flashes, emotional swings, sleepless nights, and a host of other symptoms that can make each day feel like a battle. A scary rollercoaster. > But isn’t it in the toughest moments that we discover the depths of our resilience? I want you to know that **“You can become stronger now than ever before”** and that is not just a comforting phrase. It’s a call to arms. It challenges the idea that menopause is something to endure quietly. > Instead, it’s an invitation to redefine how we see ourselves and our bodies. **Menopause may shake your foundations, but it also gives you the chance to rebuild them, stronger and more self-aware than ever. You are not just getting through menopause—you are becoming a more powerful version of yourself.** --- ### **Why Go Through Menopause Alone?** Why do so many women feel like they have to experience menopause in silence? Why is this stage of life still shrouded in stigma and whispered conversations? Let’s break the silence. **You are not alone.** Menopause is a shared experience, and there is profound strength in community. When we openly discuss menopause, we dismantle the taboos that have kept women isolated. By sharing our stories, we empower one another to face these challenges head-on. At Ferticeutics Co., we’re committed to creating spaces where women can connect, find support, and share their strength. Together, we can create a world where menopause is no longer a solitary struggle, but a collective journey towards empowerment. Easier said than done, but still, it is so much worth trying. --- ### **Breaking the Stigma in the Workplace: Why We Need to Talk About Menopause at Work** Another elephant in the room: **menopause in the workplace**. Women in their 40s and 50s are often at the peak of their careers, yet the impact of menopause is largely ignored in corporate culture. This silence is costing women their well-being and, in some cases, their careers. > And trust me. Data is all there for you to see and do something about it before it is too late: COMPANIES LOSE A LOT WHEN THEY LOSE WOMEN IN THE WORKFORCE But it doesn’t have to be this way. Menopause isn’t a barrier to success—it’s an opportunity to foster deeper strength and wisdom in the workplace. If we can create environments where women are supported during menopause, we empower them to bring their full selves to their careers. So… Corporate leaders, this is your wake-up call. Menopause should no longer be a topic left in the shadows. The companies that embrace menopause-inclusive policies are the companies that will thrive. Not only will you retain talented women, but you’ll also foster a culture of trust and well-being that benefits everyone. --- ### **Menopause: Do See It as The Path to a Stronger You** As we kick off **World Menopause Month**, I encourage you to take a hard look at what menopause means to you. Is it something you fear? If yes, why? Write down everything that makes you uncomfortable. Do not hold back. It is your life we are talking about. Your life as a person, as a parent, as an employee, as an employer, as a friend, as a spouse… whatever role you cherish the most, one or all of them together. > Be greedy. Let menopause be the time when you **become stronger now than ever before**. As a reproductive biologist and Corporate Wellness Consultant, of course, I believe that menopause is not the end of the story. But at the same time, I do not claim it to be the start of a new chapter. Because, after consulting so many women midlife, I understand that “a new chapter” does not always describe what they really want. Or need. A new book maybe? Or no book at all? Let’s be greedy and go for what we really want and need. Whether you’re facing the challenges personally or advocating for greater support in the workplace, know this: **the strength you seek is already within you.** This month, let’s shift the conversation from one of survival to one of empowerment. Let’s stop whispering about menopause and start embracing it—together. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. This article explores how a common yet often overlooked hormonal disorder can affect cognitive function, energy levels, and emotional well-being—key factors in achieving academic success. By raising awareness and providing the right support, we can help students overcome these challenges and reach their full potential. **Content:** As the back-to-school and back-to-university season approaches, parents, students, and teachers alike are focused on achieving the best academic performance possible. However, for many students, a hidden threat may be affecting their ability to succeed: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). While often considered solely a reproductive issue, PCOS can have far-reaching effects on cognitive function, energy levels, and emotional well-being, all of which are essential for academic success. This is why addressing the impact of PCOS is so important—by recognizing its influence, we can ensure that students with this condition are supported and given the tools they need to excel academically. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is often viewed primarily as a reproductive health issue, but its effects extend far beyond that, impacting multiple aspects of a person’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being. One area where this influence is often overlooked is academic performance. Students with PCOS may struggle in ways that are not immediately apparent, and the underlying condition may be the hidden cause behind declining grades or difficulty concentrating. Here’s why PCOS can significantly affect academic performance: ### An Overlooked but Important Issue Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is often viewed primarily as a reproductive health issue, but its effects extend far beyond that, impacting multiple aspects of a person’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Despite the widespread prevalence of PCOS—affecting an estimated 1 in 10 women of reproductive age—the connection between this condition and academic performance remains largely overlooked. This lack of awareness can leave many students struggling in silence, unsure of why they face difficulties in school despite their efforts. It’s crucial that we start recognizing PCOS as not just a reproductive health issue, but a condition with far-reaching impacts on mental, emotional, and cognitive well-being. By addressing this gap, we can ensure that students receive the understanding and support they need, ultimately helping them to reach their full academic potential. This issue matters not only for individual success but also for fostering a more inclusive and supportive educational environment for all. Here’s why PCOS can significantly affect academic performance: ### 1. **Hormonal Imbalances and Cognitive Function** PCOS is primarily a hormonal disorder, with elevated levels of androgens (male hormones) and insulin resistance playing a key role. These hormonal imbalances can have a direct impact on cognitive function. Some studies have shown that women with PCOS may experience difficulties with memory, attention, and processing speed, all of which are essential for academic success. Fluctuating hormone levels, especially during menstruation, can lead to brain fog and difficulty focusing on tasks such as studying or test-taking. The combination of fatigue and cognitive impairment can hinder a student’s ability to absorb information or perform well in school. ### 2. **Chronic Fatigue and Low Energy Levels** Fatigue is a common symptom of PCOS, often linked to insulin resistance, weight gain, and poor sleep quality. This constant feeling of exhaustion can make it difficult for students to keep up with demanding coursework. Attending early classes, completing homework, or even staying focused during lectures can feel overwhelming when dealing with chronic fatigue. Insulin resistance, a common feature in PCOS, is known to contribute to low energy levels and sugar crashes, which can further impair concentration and stamina. Without proper energy management, it becomes harder for students to stay on top of their academic responsibilities. ### 3. **Emotional and Mental Health Challenges** PCOS is frequently accompanied by mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression. These emotional struggles can be overwhelming and are often linked to the hormonal imbalances and physical changes that come with the condition. Anxiety, in particular, can cause difficulty with test-taking, public speaking, or group work—all important components of academic performance. Depression can sap motivation, making it hard for students to complete assignments or even attend classes. The emotional toll of PCOS, compounded by societal pressures to look a certain way or meet academic expectations, can lead to a cycle of stress that further exacerbates the condition. ### 4. **Irregular Menstrual Cycles and Absenteeism** Another hallmark of PCOS is irregular or painful menstrual cycles, which can lead to frequent absences from school. Severe menstrual cramps, heavy bleeding, and hormonal fluctuations can make attending classes feel impossible, especially when they occur unpredictably. Missing school for health reasons leads to falling behind in coursework, making it harder to catch up and keep pace with peers. Furthermore, the emotional distress caused by unpredictable periods can lead to embarrassment and anxiety, causing some students to shy away from participating in school activities or discussions. ### 5. **Weight Struggles and Self-Esteem Issues** Weight gain, particularly around the abdomen, is a common symptom of PCOS. This can contribute to body image issues and low self-esteem, which can affect a student’s social life, confidence, and willingness to participate in academic activities. A poor self-image can create social isolation, making group projects and presentations more challenging for students who feel self-conscious. Low self-esteem can also contribute to academic disengagement, as students may not feel confident in their abilities or worthiness, further compounding academic struggles. ### 6. **Sleep Disorders** PCOS is linked to sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and insomnia, which can significantly impact a student’s ability to perform well academically. A lack of quality sleep impairs memory, concentration, and the ability to problem-solve, all of which are crucial skills in an academic setting. Students with sleep disturbances may find it difficult to stay awake and alert in class, which can lead to missed information and the need to constantly catch up. Sleep deprivation also exacerbates symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, and hormonal imbalances, further affecting overall academic performance. ### 7. **Increased Stress Levels** Managing PCOS can be incredibly stressful. Between managing symptoms, doctor’s appointments, lifestyle changes, and possible fertility concerns, students with PCOS may feel overwhelmed by the demands of both their health and their education. Stress can make it harder to concentrate, retain information, and stay organized, contributing to academic decline. ### Addressing PCOS-Related Academic Struggles For students with PCOS, understanding that their academic challenges may be linked to their health is the first step in addressing the issue. Seeking medical help to manage symptoms, improving diet and exercise routines, and seeking mental health support are all crucial steps in improving not only health but academic performance as well. Additionally, schools and educators can play a role by recognizing that students with chronic health conditions like PCOS may need extra support, such as flexible deadlines, note-taking assistance, or mental health resources. ### Conclusion PCOS is more than just a reproductive health issue—it is a condition that can significantly impact academic performance due to its wide-ranging effects on physical and mental health. Students with PCOS often face unique challenges that can go unnoticed, but with proper management and support, they can overcome these obstacles and thrive academically. By raising awareness about the connection between PCOS and poor academic performance, we can help students get the support they need to succeed. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. This bias often intersects with gender discrimination, leading to unique challenges for middle-aged women in the workplace and society. One significant factor contributing to this issue is menopause, a natural biological process that can impact women’s physical and emotional well-being. #### The Impact of Menopause Menopause typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 and marks the end of a woman’s menstrual cycles. This transition can bring about various symptoms, including hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and cognitive changes. Despite being a natural part of ageing, menopause is often stigmatized and misunderstood. To explain the above further, menopause can profoundly impact women’s professional lives, influencing both their performance and perceptions at work. Symptoms like those mentioned above can reduce a woman’s comfort and efficiency during work hours. According to research, this biological transition may lead to increased absenteeism, decreased productivity, and a need for more frequent breaks, which can be misinterpreted by colleagues and supervisors as a lack of commitment or declining capability. Additionally, the stigma surrounding menopause can result in women feeling embarrassed or reluctant to discuss their symptoms, leading to inadequate support and understanding from their workplace. This lack of awareness and support can exacerbate the issue of middle-ageism, where women in their middle years are unfairly perceived as less reliable, less adaptable to new technologies, or less driven in their careers. These misconceptions can hinder their career progression, result in fewer opportunities for advancement, and increase the likelihood of being overlooked for critical projects or promotions. Consequently, menopause not only affects women’s health but also significantly influences workplace dynamics, contributing to the broader issue of middle-ageism. > This lack of understanding exacerbates middle-ageism, as women are frequently perceived as less capable or less committed to their careers during this phase of life. #### Middle-Ageism and Its Consequences Middle-ageism manifests in several ways, including: 1. **Career Stagnation**: Middle-aged women are often overlooked for promotions and career advancement opportunities. Stereotypes about their diminishing energy levels or outdated skills contribute to this stagnation. 2. **Workplace Isolation**: As younger colleagues advance, middle-aged women may feel isolated and marginalized, leading to decreased job satisfaction and engagement. 3. **Health Misunderstandings**: Symptoms of menopause can be misinterpreted as general health or emotional issues, resulting in inadequate support from employers and colleagues. #### Steps Companies Can Take to Support Middle-Aged Women Addressing middle-ageism and supporting women through menopause requires intentional efforts from companies. Here are three crucial steps organizations can implement: 1. **Promote Awareness and Education**: Companies should provide education about menopause and its impact on women. This can be done through workshops, informational materials, and training sessions. Educating all employees, including management, helps create a more empathetic and supportive work environment. 2. **Implement Flexible Work Policies**: Flexibility in work arrangements can significantly benefit women experiencing menopause. Options like remote work, flexible hours, and extended leave for health reasons can help women manage their symptoms without compromising their careers. Employers should also consider creating private, comfortable spaces for women to take breaks as needed. 3. **Foster Inclusive and Supportive Cultures**: Building an inclusive workplace culture involves recognizing and valuing the contributions of middle-aged women. Companies can establish mentorship programs, support groups, and employee resource groups (ERGs) focused on age-related issues. Encouraging open dialogue about menopause and middle-ageism helps destigmatize these topics and promotes a culture of understanding and support. #### Conclusion Middle-ageism, particularly as it affects women, is a pervasive issue that needs addressing. By understanding the role of menopause and taking proactive steps to support middle-aged women, companies can foster a more inclusive, equitable, and productive work environment. Recognizing and valifying the experiences of middle-aged women not only benefits them but also strengthens the overall organizational culture and performance. ### Partner with us to EmpowerYourMenopause® Addressing middle-ageism and supporting women through menopause is crucial for creating an inclusive and thriving workplace. Across the lifespan, women encounter a myriad of unique health challenges, from fertility to menopause, that necessitate specialized attention and care. Understanding and addressing these challenges are crucial steps towards achieving gender equity in healthcare. Fertility marks the beginning of a woman’s reproductive journey, yet for many, it is not as straightforward as it may seem. Approximately 10% of women worldwide experience difficulties conceiving, highlighting the importance of accessible fertility treatments and support services. Furthermore, conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis can significantly impact fertility and overall reproductive health, underscoring the need for early detection and comprehensive management. Pregnancy and childbirth bring their own set of health considerations. Complications during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, can endanger both maternal and fetal well-being. Access to quality prenatal care is essential for monitoring and managing these conditions, ensuring the best possible outcomes for mother and child. Additionally, postpartum depression affects approximately 1 in 7 women, emphasizing the importance of mental health support during the perinatal period. As women age, they encounter another significant milestone: menopause. The hormonal changes associated with menopause can lead to a range of symptoms, including hot flashes, mood swings, and vaginal dryness. While menopause is a natural phase of life, its impact on women’s quality of life should not be underestimated. Adequate education and support are crucial for helping women navigate this transition with dignity and comfort. Despite these challenges, women’s health research and funding continue to lag behind their male counterparts. For example, a study published in the Journal of Women’s Health found that only 38% of cardiovascular clinical trial participants are women, despite the fact that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women globally. This disparity underscores the urgent need for gender-inclusive research practices and policies that account for the unique biological and social factors that influence women’s health. Furthermore, societal attitudes towards women’s health can pose additional barriers to care. Stigma surrounding menstruation, reproductive health, and menopause can discourage women from seeking help and support when needed. Cultural taboos and misinformation perpetuate myths and misconceptions, further hindering access to accurate information and appropriate care. Addressing these social determinants of health is essential for creating a healthcare system that is truly equitable and inclusive. In light of these challenges, prioritizing women’s health care is not just a matter of fairness; it is a public health imperative. Investing in preventive care, early intervention, and research will not only improve women’s health outcomes but also benefit society as a whole. Empowering women to take control of their health and well-being requires a comprehensive approach that addresses the biological, social, and systemic factors that shape their experiences. On this International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to advancing women’s health and rights. By recognizing and addressing the unique health challenges women face throughout their lives, we can create a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive, from fertility to menopause and beyond. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. As societal norms shift and women embrace diverse paths to motherhood, technology, and AI are playing a pivotal role in empowering women who choose to freeze their eggs, allowing them to navigate the complexities of fertility on their own terms. With the advent of groundbreaking innovations like [CHLOE OQ](https://fairtility.com/chloe/) for Egg Freezing, from [Fairtility](https://fairtility.com/), which we just incorporated into our IVF clinic, the Institute of Life IASO, the future of reproduction is being reshaped, offering unprecedented opportunities and possibilities for women to defy the constraints of their biological clocks. The traditional notion of a “ticking biological clock” has long loomed over women, often presenting a challenge as they strive to balance personal aspirations with the desire for motherhood. > For many, the decision to freeze their eggs isn’t just about preserving fertility; it’s about reclaiming autonomy and embracing the freedom to pursue their dreams without compromising their future family plans. With[ CHLOE OQ](https://fairtility.com/fairtility-unveils-chloe-oq-expanding-its-offering-into-fertility-preservation/), this journey becomes even more accessible and reliable than ever before. CHLOE OQ represents a groundbreaking advancement in egg-freezing technology, leveraging AI algorithms to optimize the process and enhance success rates. By precisely monitoring and analyzing various parameters, including (morphological) egg quality and developmental potential, CHLOE OQ empowers women with invaluable insights, guiding them toward the most effective strategies for egg preservation. This cutting-edge technology not only increases the likelihood of a successful egg freezing (successful in the potential of a pregnancy later on) but also streamlines the entire experience, minimizing uncertainties and maximizing outcomes. One of the most remarkable aspects of CHLOE OQ seems to be its ability to personalize the egg freezing journey according to each woman’s unique needs and preferences. Through sophisticated algorithms and predictive analytics, CHLOE OQ tailors treatment protocols to align with individual needs, ensuring a more personalized and effective approach to fertility preservation. This level of customization not only enhances the overall experience but also instills women with a sense of empowerment and agency over their reproductive health. As [Fairtility](https://fairtility.com/), the company that developed CHLOE™ states, “CHLOE™ is the first and only transparent AI-based decision support tool”. > And trust me, when I hear about “transparency” in IVF, I become the happiest reproductive specialist ever. #### Egg Freezing, reproductive “freedom”, DEI and modern relationships Moreover, the advent of egg-freezing technology like CHLOE OQ seems to also be revolutionizing the landscape of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in reproductive healthcare. By providing women with greater flexibility and control over their fertility, egg freezing serves as a powerful tool for promoting gender equality in the workplace and beyond. With the option to delay motherhood with more confidence until they’re ready, women can pursue career opportunities without fear of sacrificing their reproductive aspirations, thereby leveling the playing field and fostering a more inclusive society. Also, in today’s complex dating landscape, where gradual social liberation from old concepts and new work models (hybrid, nomads, etc.) are also creating new types of relationships and time often seems to be very important, egg freezing is emerging as a real game changer for women seeking to create a family on their own terms. With the ability to preserve their fertility until they find the right partner or circumstances align, women gain a newfound sense of freedom in navigating their personal lives. Egg freezing not only provides a practical solution to the challenges of modern dating but also empowers women to prioritize their own needs and aspirations without compromise. So if you are considering freezing your eggs, it is good to know that nowadays, with the advanced technologies available and artificial intelligence, we have ushered in a new era of possibilities and empowerment for all of you who desire and **deserve** to have the choice of when to procreate, if that is indeed what you want. With innovations like CHLOE OQ, now available in our embryology lab, the future of reproduction is more promising than ever, offering women unprecedented control over their fertility and reproductive destiny. Last but definitely not least, I would like to share something personal, my very own struggle to balance my biological clock and my desire to become a mother. Back then, (25-30 years old) I didn’t have that choice, not in my wildest dreams. Even though I was in the USA at the time, working as an embryologist in one of the world’s biggest and best IVF clinics. Even if, sitting next to my teacher and everlasting friend and inspiration, the great reproductive scientist and most amazing person, Juergen Liebermann, I was one of the first scientists to learn and apply vitrification, the method still used for freezing (in the link to Juergen’s name is his new method for “thawing” embryos, which will once again bring evolution to the FET procedure). I do remember back then my anxiety… Should I dedicate myself to my career? Then what? When would I go back (to Greece)? When would I start a family? If today (sadly still) we talk about glass ceilings and patriarchy, imagine what was the situation 20 years ago. I am so glad that today’s women, including my daughters, can dream differently and pursue their dreams on their own terms. > Not with selfishness or lack of responsibility but without the stereotypes that were… the walls and ceilings of my generation. By taking advantage of synchronous developments, women can confidently pursue their career goals, navigate the complexities of modern relationships and embrace motherhood on their own terms, making them truly unstoppable in every aspect of their lives. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. Middle age often brings about a time of reflection and introspection, leading many individuals to consider their overall well-being and set new health goals. However, this seemingly straightforward task can become a daunting challenge for various reasons. Let me share with you what I see AND feel during my consultations with my health curation clients, most of them being 40-60 years old, and some food for thought if you are at this stage in your life. So, the three common factors contributing to the struggle middle-aged individuals face when trying to establish new health goals are the ones below, with procrastination being a significant hindrance. ### **Busy Lifestyle**: One of the primary obstacles middle-aged individuals encounter in their pursuit of health goals is the relentless demands of a busy lifestyle. Juggling career responsibilities, family obligations, and personal commitments can leave little time for self-care. As work and family take centre stage, individuals may find it challenging to prioritize their health amidst the chaos of everyday life. The result is often a neglect of personal well-being, leading to a hesitancy to set and commit to new health goals. ### **Fear of Failure:** Middle age can bring with it a fear of failure that may not have been as prominent in earlier years. As individuals accumulate life experiences, successes, and setbacks, the prospect of not achieving health goals becomes more daunting. The fear of falling short or not meeting expectations can paralyze individuals, preventing them from taking the necessary steps toward better health. This fear can be particularly potent when faced with the realization that time may be running out to make significant lifestyle changes. ### **Procrastination:** Procrastination, the act of delaying or postponing tasks, is a pervasive issue that affects people of all ages but can be particularly pronounced in middle age. The mindset of “I’ll start tomorrow” or “I’ll make healthier choices next week” can become a harmful habit that delays the initiation of health goals indefinitely. Procrastination can stem from a variety of sources, including a lack of motivation, fear of change, or the belief that there will always be a more convenient time to begin. Overcoming this tendency to procrastinate is crucial for middle-aged individuals seeking to establish and maintain new health habits. > From the above it seems like middle age presents a unique set of challenges when it comes to setting AND achieving new health goals. With the *achieving* part being the really hard one. A busy lifestyle, fear of failure, and the pervasive issue of procrastination can all contribute to the struggle faced by individuals during this stage of life. > However, it’s important to recognize that it is never too late to prioritize one’s health. By acknowledging these obstacles and taking small, consistent steps towards change, middle-aged individuals can break free from the cycle of inaction and work towards a healthier and more fulfilling life. Especially nowadays with so many tools available to really do it. > Longevity is no longer a utopia. > > Harroula Bilali, BSc MMedSc As the saying goes, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” Embracing this perspective can serve as a powerful motivator for middle-aged individuals to overcome their struggles and embark on a journey towards improved health and well-being. So…. Get ready, set, go…. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. In the pursuit of longevity, science is increasingly turning its gaze towards an unexpected ally: the microbiome. While advances in medicine have propelled our understanding of health and lifespan, recent research highlights a profound connection between women’s longevity and the delicate balance of their microbiome. The microbiome, an intricate ecosystem of trillions of microbes residing in and on the human body, orchestrates a symphony of biological processes. Its impact extends far beyond digestion, playing a fundamental role in immune function, metabolism, and even cognitive health. However, emerging studies suggest an additional dimension to its influence—one deeply intertwined with women’s longevity. **The Microbiome: A Guardian of Women’s Health** Women’s bodies harbor a distinct microbial landscape, influenced by hormonal fluctuations, reproductive cycles, and lifestyle factors. This intricate interplay contributes significantly to women-specific health concerns, including reproductive health, hormonal balance, and susceptibility to autoimmune diseases. Recent investigations underscore the microbiome’s contribution to female-specific conditions like endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and even pregnancy-related complications. Understanding and maintaining a balanced microbiome might hold the key to mitigating these health challenges and potentially enhancing women’s longevity. **Immune Resilience and Longevity** The microbiome’s impact on the immune system is pivotal in determining overall health and longevity. Research indicates that a diverse and balanced microbiome aids in the development of a robust immune response. In women, this can be particularly crucial, as immune function often plays a critical role in various stages of life, including pregnancy, menopause, and ageing. An imbalanced microbiome can lead to chronic inflammation, a hallmark of many age-related diseases. By nurturing a healthy microbiome, women may fortify their immune systems, potentially mitigating the onset and progression of age-related ailments and thereby contributing to an extended lifespan. **The Microbiome’s Impact on Mental Health and Longevity** Beyond its influence on physical health, the microbiome plays an integral role in mental well-being—a factor intricately linked to longevity. Recent studies have unveiled the “gut-brain axis,” highlighting the bidirectional communication between the gut microbiota and the brain. A balanced microbiome contributes to neurotransmitter production, impacting mood regulation and cognitive function. Good mental health, in turn, has been strongly correlated with increased longevity. Individuals with robust mental well-being often exhibit resilience against stressors, maintain healthier lifestyles, and show a decreased risk of various age-related conditions. By nurturing a healthy microbiome, individuals may fortify their mental resilience, potentially contributing to an extended lifespan by fostering a positive mindset and emotional balance. **Lifestyle and the need for personalization** Advancements in microbiome research are paving the way for innovative approaches to promote women’s longevity. Probiotics, prebiotics, and personalized microbiome interventions offer promising avenues to restore and maintain microbial balance. Tailoring interventions based on an individual’s unique microbiome composition could revolutionize preventive healthcare, particularly in extending women’s lifespan. Moreover, lifestyle modifications such as diet, stress management, and adequate sleep can significantly influence the microbiome’s composition. Embracing these healthy practices not only fosters a thriving microbial community but also holds the potential to enhance overall wellness and longevity in women. As science delves deeper into the intricate relationship between the microbiome and women’s health, it becomes evident that nurturing a balanced microbial ecosystem holds immense promise for extending women’s longevity. From bolstering immune resilience to addressing gender-specific health concerns, the microbiome emerges as a pivotal player in the pursuit of a longer, healthier life for women. By embracing this newfound understanding and harnessing the power of the microbiome through tailored interventions and lifestyle modifications, women can potentially unlock the secrets to a longer, more vibrant life. The future of women’s longevity is intricately linked to the balance within—a harmonious symphony orchestrated by the unseen yet mighty microbial allies dwelling within each individual. In recognition of the pivotal role played by the microbiome in women’s longevity and overall health, Ferticeutics is embarking on a pioneering initiative. We are dedicated to creating a comprehensive ecosystem for the total management of the women’s microbiome. I was enveloped in genuine delight and unparalleled elation, akin to being an active participant in a distinguished “CIGAR Smoker of the Year” event in London, notwithstanding my physical presence merely within the confines of my living quarters in Athens. The day after, the following thoughts crossed my mind that I would like to share: In the pursuit of wellness, we often encounter advice that directs us away from certain habits or indulgences perceived as detrimental to our health. However, wellness isn’t solely about strict limitations; it’s about a holistic approach that encompasses both physical and mental well-being. Surprisingly, one such indulgence—cigars—may have a place within this broader concept of wellness, provided it’s approached in moderation and with mindfulness. I do know that all of you Cigar Lovers, Aficionados, and Sommeliers out there…. already probably *hate* the “moderation” part but please bear with me… ### **Embracing Pleasure in Moderation** Again, if pleasure can also be in moderation… Wellness isn’t about deprivation; it’s about balance and joy. Enjoyment and happiness play crucial roles in our overall well-being. Often, the things we enjoy bring a sense of fulfillment and relaxation, contributing positively to our mental health. For many, cigars represent a pleasurable pastime, offering moments of relaxation and contemplation. ### **Mindfulness in Moderation** Moderation is key. In the case of cigars, enjoying them in moderation can be akin to savoring a fine wine or gourmet meal. It’s about the experience, the relaxation, and the social aspect rather than excessive consumption. ### **The Art of Relaxation** Cigar smoking, when done mindfully, can be an opportunity for relaxation and mindfulness. It’s a moment to slow down, appreciate the flavours and aromas, and engage in contemplation. This act of deliberate, relaxed enjoyment can have positive effects on stress reduction and mental well-being. ### **Caveats and Considerations** While moderate cigar smoking may offer these potential benefits, it’s crucial to acknowledge the risks associated with tobacco use. Cigar smoking, like any form of tobacco consumption, presents health risks, including the possibility of addiction, increased risk of certain diseases, and adverse effects on respiratory health. These risks should be weighed carefully against any perceived benefits. ### **The Holistic Approach to Wellness** Wellness isn’t a one-size-fits-all paradigm. It’s about finding what works for you—physically, mentally, and emotionally. If the occasional cigar brings a sense of relaxation, joy, and social connection, it can complement your wellness goals, provided it’s a conscious and mindful choice within the larger spectrum of a healthy lifestyle. As a corporate wellness coach, I have encountered some CEO’s who had a really “destroying” all-or-nothing approach. Either no cigars at all or one cigar after another, to compensate for the time lost in between… Nothing sustainable in the end. So… Embracing the things that bring us joy, like savoring a fine cigar or enjoying a glass of whisky (and not whiskey), can be part of our journey toward wellness. It’s about acknowledging that pleasure, in moderation, is a vital part of a fulfilling life. Yet, in this pursuit, let’s never underestimate the power of balance and moderation when it comes to our health goals. The key lies in cherishing these moments mindfully, understanding that our overall well-being is a mosaic crafted from choices that nourish both body and soul. So, let’s toast to life’s pleasures while honoring the importance of mindful indulgence on our path to a healthy and contented existence. Remember (of course, I need to add this part as a healthcare practitioner) that before incorporating any habit, including cigar smoking, into your wellness routine, it’s wise to consult with healthcare professionals to understand the potential risks specific to your health profile. Healthcare professionals have a crucial role in advocating for comprehensive screening, proactive management, and holistic approaches to address this often overlooked aspect of women's health. **Content:** Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland, is a condition that demands close attention, especially concerning women’s fertility. Despite its prevalence and known implications, one crucial aspect often overlooked is its impact on increasing the risk of miscarriage during the first trimester of pregnancy. Research has shown a clear association between Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and miscarriage, primarily in the early stages of pregnancy. The thyroid plays a pivotal role in regulating hormone levels critical for successful conception and healthy pregnancy. When Hashimoto’s disrupts this balance, it heightens the chances of complications, including miscarriage, posing a significant concern for women trying to conceive. Additionally, this condition may result in preeclampsia, placental abruption, and anemia. > So, for many women, Hashimoto’s disease can pose challenges in carrying the baby to full term. One of the primary challenges is the lack of awareness, or perhaps the underestimation, of Hashimoto’s influence on fertility outcomes. Often, it remains undiagnosed or untreated, leading to increased risks during pregnancy. Addressing this issue warrants a multifaceted approach, involving not only accurate diagnosis but also comprehensive management strategies. Beyond conventional treatment methods, the role of micronutrients in managing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and its impact on fertility is gaining attention. Micronutrients like vitamin C, selenium, vitamins D and E and zinc, are showing promising effects in supporting thyroid function and mitigating the risks associated with Hashimoto’s, particularly in the context of pregnancy. Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, contributes to the reduction of oxidative stress associated with autoimmune conditions. Selenium plays a crucial role in thyroid hormone metabolism and can help alleviate inflammation linked to Hashimoto’s. Vitamins D and E have been associated with improved thyroid function and overall reproductive health in women. Zinc, vital among micronutrients, has also been shown to aid thyroid function, immune modulation, and reproductive health, contributing significantly alongside vitamins D, E, Selenium, and vitamin C. All the available data conclude that, **beyond medication alone**, embracing a well-rounded nutritional approach is pivotal in managing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. A diet rich in essential nutrients, including vitamins D, E, C, Selenium, and zinc, not only supports overall health but also aids in optimising thyroid function. Adequate levels of these micronutrients help regulate immune responses, reduce inflammation, and support hormone balance, complementing medical interventions and potentially mitigating the severity of Hashimoto’s symptoms. Integrating these nutrients through a balanced diet or supplementation not only can significantly contribute to better management and improved quality of life but also better fertility outcomes for individuals living with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. In this context, the emergence of nutraceuticals tailored to address fertility challenges in women with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is noteworthy. Fertilovit® F THY, a clinically proven supplement, has shown promising results in a study focusing on its effectiveness in supporting thyroid function and fertility outcomes in women diagnosed with Hashimoto’s who are trying to conceive. This supplement, scientifically formulated with a combination of essential micronutrients, including the ones above, aims to optimize thyroid health and enhance fertility potential. Healthcare professionals play a pivotal role in addressing this issue by advocating for comprehensive thyroid screening in women of reproductive age, especially those planning pregnancy. Early detection of Hashimoto’s allows for timely intervention, including lifestyle modifications, dietary adjustments, and, in some cases, supplementation with targeted nutrients like those found in [Fertilovit® F THY.](https://fertilovit.gr/female-fertility/fertilovit-f-thy/) Moreover, healthcare providers need to emphasize the significance of managing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis not only to ensure better fertility outcomes but also for the overall well-being of women. By integrating holistic approaches that encompass proper nutrition, supplementation when necessary, and a proactive stance on thyroid health, healthcare professionals can make significant strides in supporting women with Hashimoto’s in their journey toward a successful pregnancy. In conclusion, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis poses a substantial yet often neglected risk to women’s fertility, particularly concerning the increased rate of miscarriage in the first trimester. Healthcare professionals have a crucial role in advocating for comprehensive screening, proactive management, and holistic approaches to address this often overlooked aspect of women’s health. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. As the CEO of Ferticeutics Co., a company that has reproductive health in its DNA, I am honoured to share with you three remarkable insights into the future of fertility. These advances, although not yet widely available, represent the remarkable promise of what lies ahead for aspiring parents. **1. Personalized Fertility Predictions: The Future is Individualised** Imagine a world where prospective parents can access highly accurate, personalized fertility predictions to guide their path to conception. The future holds promise in this regard, where the synergy of artificial intelligence and comprehensive genetic testing will bring forth an exceptional resource. These advancements will enable us to analyze a multitude of factors, including genetic data, lifestyle choices, and health indicators, to craft a tailored fertility roadmap. With this knowledge, hopeful parents will be able to make informed decisions, leading to a greater likelihood of a successful conception. **2. In-Home Fertility Monitoring Devices: Convenience and Precision** A forthcoming development in reproductive health is the advent of in-home fertility monitoring devices, offering unparalleled convenience and precision. Leveraging non-invasive methods such as saliva or urine tests, these devices will empower individuals and couples to accurately track hormone levels, pinpoint ovulation, and monitor other pivotal fertility indicators. With these cutting-edge tools at their disposal, they can identify their fertile window with precision and optimize their chances of conceiving, all within the comfort of their homes. **3. Fertility-Preserving Innovations: Redefining Possibilities** Advancements in medical science are poised to redefine the possibilities of fertility preservation. Future techniques, such as ovarian tissue freezing and gamete rejuvenation, are set to extend the horizons for those aspiring to become parents, even in the face of health challenges or lifestyle choices. These groundbreaking approaches offer hope to individuals who might otherwise encounter fertility-related obstacles, heralding a new era in family planning. As we contemplate these “fertility insights from the future,” it becomes evident that a future journey toward parenthood is destined to be graced with remarkable opportunities. Yet, regardless of the horizon-reaching innovations, I do believe we should emphasize that the bedrock of fertility remains rooted in sound health practices, open communication, and the expert guidance of trusted healthcare professionals. Last but definitely not least, as we embark on this journey into the future of fertility, it is vital to remember that, while we eagerly embrace the remarkable strides in science and technology, the essence of conception should always remain as human as possible. Amidst the dazzling promises of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge innovations, the fundamental elements of love, support, and communication should never be overshadowed. The human connection, the warmth of shared dreams, and the reassuring guidance of healthcare professionals will forever be the bedrock upon which the path to parenthood is built. > No matter how far we journey into the future, the beauty of creating life should always be celebrated as a profoundly human experience. > > Harroula Bilali So, let us look ahead with anticipation, but also with a firm commitment to preserving the authenticity of this remarkable journey. We live in an era where women can become pregnant at a very advanced reproductive age. Being pregnant in perimenopause has long been a challenging procedure, with the latest advancements in the IVF lab allowing women to become moms with their own eggs even at 45 years of age. Or even older. With egg donation and supporting country law, women now have the choice to become mothers in menopause. Being a new mom, especially for the first time in (peri) menopause can be very challenging. Because of estrogen decline postpartum, new moms can experience a variety of symptoms including vaginal dryness, fatigue, hair loss, irritability, low libido, and even depression – the same symptoms exactly as (peri)menopause, that is why some say that postpartum is like a “mini menopause”. Needless to say, for women of very advanced reproductive age that choose to breastfeed for a long period of time, a year or more, it is possible to reach a point where you become perimenopausal or even menopausal while still breastfeeding. Along with other “conversations” about infertility and menopause, the former being a disease, the latter being a natural situation, yet both so challenging and demanding, I believe we should also start discussing how we can support women who become mothers midlife. As a company, and personally, I will open this conversation with my peers. Please message me if you would be interested to join me on this topic. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. But it is NOT a reason to be looked down on. On the contrary, I dare to say, it is an opportunity to celebrate wisdom, perseverance, and experience. **Content:** Menopause at work for the majority of women is hard. The symptoms can disrupt proper work, more or less, depending on how severe or mild they are, respectively. It gets harder when women do not have adequate support to go through this NATURAL phase in their lives. This “support” I want to discuss today. Creating a better physical workspace that supports women going through menopause is one thing. That is the easy part I believe. Creating a healthy workplace mentality that accepts menopause as a natural phase and not a debilitating female illness, is the hard thing. Especially when on top of menopause you add ageism. Last week a fabulous, successful, menopausal friend of mine broke down emotionally. Not because of menopause. Because her younger coworkers, since she started showing menopausal symptoms that “revealed” her “secret” (we are in 2023 and still menopause is taboo), started not respecting her opinion “that much anymore” because “now” she is “old”. How can she know the latest trends? Even female ones. Like they are not going to be in her shoes later on in life. Menopause at work is many things. But it is NOT a reason to be looked down on. On the contrary, I dare to say, it is an opportunity to celebrate wisdom, perseverance, and experience. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. Discuss ALL the things that frustrate you. Ask for more help, if you believe you are not receiving plenty. **Content:** The last day of National Infertility Awareness Week 2023 (NIAW2023) is today and the #FindYourVoice challenge is on. Another week with many new really challenging ivf cases for myself, and because of the infertility awareness week challenges going on, I tried even harder to “feel” the real struggles ivf patients face beyond the disease itself. So last night was my moment of epiphany, after a consultation that lasted two hours. It seems that many IVF patients while being treated by their IVF team, they are afraid to ask ALL the questions. Yes, they do ask, but some. They ask the ones that will not make their current doctor uncomfortable. Even if they do not feel 100% sure about their treatment, they hesitate many times to ask what they really want. ALL the questions they want. They seem to be accepting anything, as long as it looks promising. If the treatment is successful, then all is well. Apparently. But what if it is not? If the failure happens again, and probably again, and again? And unfortunately YES, that is a possibility because no matter how much progress we have made IVF is still very challenging. We may be most successful than ever, but there are still many “extremely” challenging IVF cases that require “extremely” higher doses of patience, medical excellence & expertise, and… of course, perseverance. When you are infertile and receiving IVF treatment, it is so important to #findyourvoice as a patient and have the courage to ask your current doctor ALL the questions that you really want. Discuss ALL the things that frustrate you. Ask for more help, if you believe you are not receiving plenty. Not the next doctor. The one who is treating you now. Find your voice and talk openly about everything that bothers you. Personally speaking, when my patients are honest with me, not holding back, and expressing even their insecurities, that is when I feel I am most honored as their doctor. When they find their voice and speak up, I find the courage to treat them the best way that I can. ![author avatar](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/cropped-Harroula_Bilali_Media-300x300.jpg) Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc Founder & CEO of FERTICEUTICS Co. **Content:** ## About Us Ferticeutics Co is a multifaceted company with diverse products and services that share a passion for personalized healthcare ## Our History Our history is a history of love and dedication in better human health and happiness. Since her early steps as a junior scientist, Ferticeutics's founder and CEO Ms. Harroula Mathiopoulou Bilali, believed that she would be useful as a health specialist only if her own scientific progress was combined with actions that bring a positive impact in the life and happiness of her family and the community. ![](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Ferticeutics_Aggeliki-1024x700.jpg "Ferticeutics_Aggeliki - Ferticeutics - Ferticeutics") ## How it all started Back in the early 2000, working as a reproductive biologist and scientific manager at Bilalis Women's Health Clinic, she understood that the healthcare industry needed something "more" than "just" products and/ or protocols that cure disease and/ or improve health. Working mostly in women's healthcare and the IVF industry, she understood that products need to be evidence based , the healthcare services personalised with a deep understanding of a patient's individual needs and, even more importantly, each patient needs to be provided with customized tools and support in order to be empowered and follow the treatment correctly for best results and optimal health. In the photo, an early drawing from her youngest daughter, back then 4 years old, showing how she understood her mom is helping others making babies. ![](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Ferticeutics_new-life-1024x836.jpg "Ferticeutics_new life - Ferticeutics - Ferticeutics") ## Our Vision We envision a world where humans have access to healthcare products and services that truly transform health for the better. Informed and empowered patients that make the right choices for their health, creating the right foundations for wellness beyond limits, not only for today, but also for future generations. ## Our Mission Our mission is to promote (create, distribute, combine, curate) innovative, evidence based pharmaceuticals, health tests and/ or services that improve health even before birth and support healthy aging and a happy, good life, the greek "ευ ζην". ![](https://ferticeutics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Ferticeutics_happyfamily-1024x612.jpg "Ferticeutics_happyfamily - Ferticeutics - Ferticeutics") --- ### [Contact Us](https://ferticeutics.com/contact-us/) **Published:** March 15, 2020 **Author:** Harroula Bilali BSc MMedSc **Content:** ## Contact Us Great communication is the most important part of any relationship. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this: > Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.) …or something like this: > The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.
